Best Thing Since Sliced Bread
Bread is one of those things that takes up about a whole aisle in the grocery store. But many of those pre-packaged breads are "air bread" - calories and seem to be airy light. Have you tried artisan breads? You will find these are usually denser, and more filling.
In the bakery section of larger stores are more bread choices. Go for whole grain. Try nuts and seeds and sprouts. Any way you like it, one serving of bread is one ounce. Your daily intake of bread should be 3-5 servings per day.
Some farmer's markets and specialty stores offer other choices of breads. Hand mixed and kneaded, stone or oven baked, their freshness will give you more ideas of how to add to your meal. Try a slice of baguettes (long, thin bread) with a fresh tomato and a slice of fresh mozzarella, drizzle a little balsamic and make a caprese salad. Drizzle a little olive oil and fresh cracked pepper on a plate, and dip your bread in. Slice fresh cumber on bread with a little bit of light cream cheese to hold it in place. Or fresh tomatoes on a piece of toast!
Baking bread is not the 8-12 hour chore it used to be. There are plenty of quick rise recipes, or if you have a bread machine, put it to use! Honey wheat, sourdough, rustic, herbs (try rosemary or a blend of dill and garlic), multi grain; flaxseed, oatmeal. Find your favorite and enjoy!
